SAI Screentone Paper Textures by ToadsDontExist SAI Screentone Paper Textures by ToadsDontExist
Hellooo again! While I haven't been able to save GIMP brushes, I've been playing around with SAI and made some textures to share with you guys.

~these are PAPER textures, not brush textures. :) I've included a helpful image in case you're dumb like me

~I can't count. There are 8 textures in the pack. But the read me says 7. I guess you can consider it a bonus lol

~I've included the .sai image for the preview, so you can see the settings I used in each layer

This is the first SAI resource I've made, so I REALLY want your feedback! What can I improve, what you would like to see next time, what you liked, etc etc.

I wanna see stuff you've made with my textures! Show it off, and I'll take a look! It always makes me happy when artists way better than I am put my stuff to good use.

I think that's all for now. :D Hope you guys enjoy! Installation instruction are in the read me...Oh I guess I can reiterate them here.

1. Unzip the folder somewhere.
2. Copy the BMP files only and paste them in the \papertex folder in your SAI folders.
ex. C:\Program Files (x86)\PaintTool_SAI_English_ver.1.10\PaintTool_SAI_English_ver.1.10\PaintTool SAI English Pack\papertex

3. Go up one file level from where you pasted all the textures. This is where the .exe file should be. Among other things, there's also a file named papertex.conf. Go into my pack, and copy the version of that file that I've provided. Paste the one from my pack over the default (as in, replace the old one with the new one) :) Otherwise, SAI won't display any of the new textures as choices.

4. Restart SAI and start playing with your new paper textures!!!

*wipes forehead*
If you guys have any questions, feel free to comment here, or drop me a note.

EDIT: WOW! I'm excited so many people have taken a look at these textures! I've cleared up the install directions somewhat and will be getting to work on a second pack! :D Thank you all so much! :)

Newer versions of SAI can add new textures automagically!! :D Just use the start-sai exe file to start the program, and you should see the new textures you've added without having to update the .conf file by hand! Cool! :airborne:

EDIT EDIT: Fixed to add Lace.bmp to the conf file

EDIT 5/22/11: Uploaded original .conf file here [link]
Just unzip and rename the file papertex.conf, and paste where it should be in the same folder with SAI.exe

Will try to get to your comments and try to help, but in the meantime, try resetting the papertex if you lost the original :)

Warning, start-sai.exe might not work in older versions of SAI!

So these resources were posted aaaagess ago but nonetheless I just want to thank you SO MUCH!
I had a few brush textures downloaded and kept wondering why they wouldn't load and your packs (this one and the pastel chalk brush one) have been my lifesaver. I FINALLY!!! have proper paper and brush textures for my SAI and I can't put into words how awesome this is, so many endless possibilities!
You. Are. A. Lifesaver!!

If I paste your papertex.conf in my Sai, would that also replace the other textures I have also downloaded and saved in there before?

Did for me, so I'm glad I saved my old one :aww:

It overwrites the whole thing right?
So might as well use a back-up :)

Yeah but I noticed there was a file in the zip with all the text. So you can just open the old file and add that text (names of the textures) and it's fine :D

Yup. That's what I did too. I saw how it's done in another tutorial ^^
